This
was initiated in1997 with the theme of “Environment is a blessing of
nature; it is our duty to protect it”. This society has already grown
two herbal gardens in the school premises. It is also responsible for anti-polythene
programme and working towards a better school by organizing “Shramadana”
campaigns.
By organizing
lecturers, observing the nature by field trips, organizing environmental camps
and inviting environmentalists to share their views with the students, the
society expects to make a nature-loving society in the future. Awarding Badges
to 120 primary students, obtaining 230 environment badges winning the runners-up
in “Suratura Thaksalawa” competition, being the runners-up in
all island drama competition held to mark the Environment Day, being runners-up
in district drama competition, obtaining four 1st places and two proficiency
certificates in the art competition held to mark the environment day are some
of the achievements of the society.
